Antarctica Eclipse Flight:
Experience the December 2021 Total Solar Eclipse over the Southern Ocean/ Antarctica from the comfort of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
On December 4, 2021, a total solar eclipse will take place over Antarctica's stunning landscapes and coastlines. This once in 18-year phenomenon will be a moment to remember for those lucky enough to be under the path of totality.
On this special departure, we will fly into the path of totality and position the plane for our lucky travellers to experience this natural and rare phenomenon.
We are working with respected eclipse chasing experts to plan the best possible flight path. The recent success of our Southern Lights Flights (to witness the Aurora Australis) has us well-positioned to provide an entertaining and educational in-flight experience.
Spend 3 - 4 hours flying over the Antarctic continent and the Ross Sea area at a lower altitude (approx. 20,000 feet) for improved viewing of the Antarctic ecosystem.
Before heading home, we will return to 40,000 feet (to improve our view of the eclipse) and position the plane into the totality zone of the occurring solar eclipse where, for a few minutes, one side of the aircraft will witness the total solar eclipse from their window. The other side of the plane will watch as a shadow falls over the earth, turning daylight to dusk, as this incredible event takes place. This rare east to west solar eclipse can only be seen in polar regions.

Ralf Stoeckeler captured a great image of the Moon being eclipsed by Earth's shadow last Wednesday, 26 May: "We had perfect conditions for the lunar eclipse last night. Only processed a couple of pics but here is one. Taken through a Celestron 14 with hyperstar and UV/ IR cut filter."
